Watchling is a helper that can be hired from Arfur's Inn. He will wander your garden, scaring away pests.
There are two versions, Day and Night, with opposing schedules from each other.
Biography
Appearance

Watchling is a man with a strange mask. It covers his entire head, and has many pieces that can open up. The eyes can pop out, a fake tongue can unfurl, and the pieces around his head can open up like a party horn.
He wears a green striped sweater with sleeves that cover his hands, and large baggy pants. He wears simple shoes with the same pattern as his shirt. He generally looks rather nervous, seeming to chew on the long sleeves with the mouth of his mask.
The daytime version of Watchling features a purple mask and pants, with a sun stitched to the front of his shirt. The Night Watchling is instead blue, and has a moon stitched to the front of the shirt instead.
Watchlings appear much more timid when their happiness is lower, but will gain confidence both in behavior and visually with higher happiness.
Personality
If two watchlings of the same shift are hired in the same garden, Watchlings will strike up conversation with each other. Watchlings are very confident, almost to the point of arrogance, in their scaring abilities.
Gameplay
Both varieties of Watchling are available to hire starting from level 16 for 1584 chocolate coins. The Day Watchling will work from 3am-3pm, while the Night Watchling works 3pm-3am. While on shift, Watchling will patrol the edge of your garden looking for intruders.
When a Watchling crosses paths with a sour piñata, a Ruffian, or a non-resident piñata, he will pop open his mask and scare it away. He does this autonomously, though can easily miss pests if they aren't near where he is patrolling. You can direct Watchling to a specific target, allowing him to break from his patrol route to scare whoever you have ordered him too. Once he has finished, he will return to his route. Despite being able to scare Ruffians away, Watchlings cannot scare Professor Pester, and attempting to direct a Watchling to Pester does nothing.
Watchling can be useful to help deal with sours before you have what you need to tame them, but he can also sometimes scare off wild piñatas which can potentially get in the way of attempts to gain residents. Once you have completed your Tower of Sour and have a Captain's Cutlass, Watchling isn't particularly helpful, except for helping fulfill the requirements for the Galagoogoo.
Mini-Games

Both Watchlings can participate in the mini-games introduced in Trouble in Paradise, and are entirely separate from each other. As opponents, the Day Watchling will choose a piñata at random. Meanwhile, the Night Watchling will choose a nocturnal piñata.
As judges in The P Factor, Day Watchling will prefers piñatas active during the day. Night Watchling though will prefer piñatas active at night, making the two Watchlings opposites to each other.
Leafos Gossip
