- The Pengum seems to be based off the rockhopper penguin. These penguins live in warmer regions than most species, referenced in the Pengum's journal entry.
- The accessories worn by the Pengum to romance form a costume, and is likely the first set discovered by the player. Dressing a piñata in a costume earns the Fancy Dresser achievement.
