Simply take your favorite stock, put it into a pan and warm through. While warming, peel and dice an onion and fry it off in a pan till golden brown. Now add the onion and a garlic clove to the stock and season with slat and pepper. Add turnip. Add barley and simmer to thicken the stew. Serve with fresh warm bread smothered in butter. Hopefully all those delicious flavors will disguise the turnip taste.
