Variants are piñatas that have changed colors after eating a specific food. Most species have 3 variants that can be discovered, each with an award associated with it. Once a piñata has become a variant, it cannot return to it's default coloring, nor change into a different variant. Evolving a piñata will remove the variant. Variants will persist if a piñata leaves your garden due to unhappiness.

While all normal piñatas have variants, there are several exceptions. The following piñatas do not have variant awards available. Sour piñatas do not have variants of any kind. The White Flutterscotch has a total of 9 variants, however these are more similar to evolutions than variants, as they are all considered separate species. None of the Flutterscotch's have traditional variants. Special piñatas, Dragonache and Choclodocus, have unique methods of changing their colors performed prior to hatching the egg, and cannot be changed after the piñata is born.
